This is scary
By Candice Kim of the Coalition for Clean Air The AQMD has developed an interactive map that lets Southern California residents view how strongly toxic chemicals are concentrated in their neighborhoods, and how high an elevated cancer risk they face. Talk about too much information. I can't help but speculate how this map will look a few years from now after the leases have run out on all those 2007 diesel rigs the Port of Long Beach plans to rent to truck drivers. Will the diesel death zone perch itself over the City of Long Beach like a black cloud? Beacon Economics and the Boston Consulting Group told Los Angeles Harbor Commissioners the plan they're considering will provide environmental improvements that can be sustained over the long term, while also improving port operations and efficiency. So I guess the question is, which side of the map would you want to be on?
